South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Human Bean, a small but nationwide chain of specialty beverage drive thru shops, is being built on an outparcel of the Food Lion shopping center in South Congaree. It is located at 669 Main Street and is already taking shape.
This is a franchise, based out of Medford, Oregon. The bulk of their shops are located on the west coast of the United States. Established in 1998, they have over 100 locations. The one being built in South Congaree will be only the fourth franchise that’s operated east of the Mississippi River. There’s one located in Gastonia, NC, Lexington, KY, and Canton, OH.
According their website at humanbean.com, their fare includes high-end hot or cold coffee drinks, iced teas, and fruit smoothies. Their hot coffees include regular brewed that ranges in price for $2.00 for 12 oz. to $3.25 for a 32 oz. cup. Specialty coffees include mocha and mocha lattes, Lavender Granitas, which is much like a Frappuccino, and a Snowy Irish Cream mocha. These range in price from $2.75 for an 8 oz. to $7.00 for a 32 oz. cup.
Their specialty teas include a Green Tea Smoothie, a flavored infused tea, and both hot and iced teas. These range in price from $2.25 for an 8 oz. regular iced tea to $7.00 for a 32 oz. Green Tea Smoothie.
They also sell Italian sodas, hot chocolate, and flavored steamers. They even have an Acai Smoothie that is dairy free, antioxidant rich, and contains the super foods Acai berries, bananas, blue berries, black berries, and pomegranate. They offer sugar free, gluten free, and dairy alternatives like soy, coconut, and macadamia milks. They also feature seasonal specialty drinks liked spiced apple ciders and a Flavor of The Month. All these list prices were found using Google and may not be the exact prices in the South Congaree franchise.
Their on-line menu says they have foods like a bobo bar, a granola bar, oatmeal, and biscotti. You can also buy bulk coffee beans at The Human Bean in a one-half to 1-pound bag.
They also have an on-line store where you can purchase things from coffee beans to t-shirts, gift cards, mugs, and more. They even have a rewards app for your phone. Their Yelp reviews are 4.5 out of 5, and their Facebook page shows 4.7 out of 5 in their reviews.
This is a drive-thru only store so that the customers never leave their vehicles. Commuters will be able to turn off Main Street, pick-up their beverage, and reenter Main Street before traveling on to their destinations. Progress is going smoothly and if construction stays on schedule, it looks as if it might be open before summer’s end.
We have asked about the additional portions of the outparcel that is being developed. As of yet, we have received no more information on that.
