July 4th on Lake Murray will be a great celebration as always

Lake Murray, SC - As it has been for as long as most can remember, Lake Murray, "The Jewel of South Carolina," will be the place to be with your family and friends for the July 4th Independence Day Celebration! There will be wonderful things to see and do for anyone who enjoys its beautiful cooling waters and the great outdoors activities the lake has to offer.

The Capital City/ Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board has been busy as they are every year during this season making sure that if there's any way possible to make your Lake Murray experience any better, it's been done. On Monday, June 29, 2020 they released their Lake Murray’s July 4th Celebration scheduled for Saturday, July 4th.

At approximately 9:15 or dark, fireworks will launch from two lake locations, Dreher Island and Spence Island. The fireworks show is synchronized to a patriotic music show. Be sure to tune into 97.5 FM WCOS for this special music program. The Irmo parksite at the Lake Murray Dam will be open all day on a first come to capacity basis and there is a $5 fee per vehicle. The Lexington parksite at the Lake Murray Dam is not open at this time and may or may not be open.

“We began this holiday tradition in 1989. This event has gained regional, statewide and national attention as South Carolina’s largest patriotic event and fireworks show. Come join us on July 4th to celebrate our nation’s birthday, stated Miriam Atria, President/CEO, Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board. We are sad to say, due to current pandemic conditions, license, permits and other requirement we will not be holding the annual boat parade this year.”

If you have friends or family coming in to town to enjoy this wonderful week with you and celebrate the birth and independence of our country, one must stop during the week leading up to or following the 4th is the Lake Murray Visitor Center located in the historic Lorick Plantation. Located at 2184 North Lake Drive Columbia, SC, the center is packed full of interesting things for everyone, from maps and brochures to an aquarium full of fish right from the water of the nearby lake. The Visitor Center has a museum that highlights the four-county region of Lake Murray Country; Lexington, Richland, Newberry, and Saluda. If you are ever looking for something new to do in the area or visiting for the first time, the Lake Murray Visitor Center is the place for you.

It's full of all types of unique Lake Murray souvenirs and gifts to help your family, friends, or loved ones remember their visit to Capital City Lake Murray Country. There's also a large amount of regularly updated information on things to see and do in the counties surrounding Lake Murray that even those who have been here for years might not realize are just a short ride away from their home. It's certainly the place to take your out of town visitors or to stop by yourself if you want to keep up with the what's developing around the region whose popularity is continually growing worldwide. Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board does plan to hold the annual event including the patriotic boat parade in 2021. We know the public will appreciate our efforts in conducting a safe holiday event.
