Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington Police Department is warning drivers they will need to seek an alternate route if they travel along Gibson Road in Lexington at all as part of their driving plans. There is a portion of the road in the 200 block that has developed bridge damage that has made it unsafe to cross.

This has forced the SCDOT to close the road where the bridge crosses at Gibson Park. According to the DOT, this may take some time to repair. In the interim, only local traffic will be allowed to travel Gibson Road. No one will be allowed to cross the bridge from either direction.

Officers with the Lexington Police Department urge motorist to be patient as the SCDOT works to repair this problem. Plan extra commute time if necessary, in order to allow yourself the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the alternatives to this route. There have been detours set up that motorist will need to utilize in order to transit from one side of the Gibson Pond bridge to the other.

We will update you once the repairs have been completed and the bridge is reopened.
