Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Corporal Cameron Mortenson of the Lexington Police Department is a corporal no more. Monday morning, Mortenson was promoted by Lexington Police Chief Terrance Green to the rank of sergeant. Sergeant Mortenson will continue his assignment within the Special Operations Division.
Mortenson works with the Community Action Team and is the department’s public information officer. The Community Action Team handles various assignments including but not limited to helping to build a strong relationship with the Lexington community. He can often be seen in the middle of special events helping to coordinate them so that they run smoothly. This team is so important because it builds trust between everyone who lives and visits Lexington and the police officers who protect its streets. They are problem solvers that often respond with helpful information and resources rather than the mindset that all problems should end with an arrest.
As the public information officer, Sgt. Mortenson coordinates and disseminates public information to the media and the public in many ways. The Lexington Police Department has been on the cutting edge of the use of social media to communicate with its residents about everything from important traffic alerts to community members interacting with their officers. They have also had great success by asking the public’s help in identifying and locating suspects who are believed to have committed crimes in Lexington.
Sergeant Cameron Mortenson has been with the Lexington Police Department for nineteen years.
