South Congaree PD locates stolen motorcycle

South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – South Congaree police officers have recovered a Harley Davidson motorcycle that was stolen sometime Sunday while its owner and his family were at church. The motorcycle was in a garage but that did not dissuade the thief or thieves from taking it.

South Congaree Police Chief Josh Shumpert said that his department worked hard on the case Monday. Shumpert said he immediately put photos of the stolen motorcycle on the department’s social media site and had it added to the town’s as well. Additionally, The Lexington Ledger picked Chief Shumpert’s post up early Monday and distributed it over their social media sites and their website. That post reached 9,095 people and was shared over 150 times from their main Facebook page. “The bike was abandoned over close to Red Bank and someone reported it there,” Chief Shumpert said. “We feel like whoever took it felt the pressure of all the attention over this and decided to get rid of it quick because we were closing in.”

Chief Shumpert said that just because the bike was recovered in almost pristine condition, the department certainly isn’t closing the case. “Although it’s great that we were able to recover it quickly, that still doesn’t excuse the fact that it was stolen. That’s a crime and we don’t tolerate crime in South Congaree.”Shumpert concluded by saying, “We certainly appreciate the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department in their assistance with this investigation as well.”

The bike has been returned to its owner and he rode it Tuesday morning.
