Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – A fire over the weekend destroyed a home north of Gaston. The blaze occurred in the 600 block of Meadowfield Road late Sunday afternoon. Firefighters from across the region rushed to the fire to help with the fight as other county fire equipment was moved around to cover stations whose manpower and equipment was committed at the fire.
When firefighters arrived, they found the small brick home was well involved with fire pushing out of the windows and doors. As they attacked the fire, commanders had to be aware of the high heat and humidity outside and consider how that was affecting the firefighters who were battling the blaze. Special equipment was called in to rehabilitate the firefighters as they traded out regularly. Personnel and equipment from Lexington County EMS were there constantly monitoring the health of all those involved in putting the fire out.
The home is being considered a total loss as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire has not been released by Lexington County.
