Woman killed in boating accident on Lake Murray identified

Lake Murray, SC (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the victim of a fatal boating accident that occurred on Lake Murray on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at approximately 1:00 a.m. This tragedy occurred in the area of Tom Drafts Point in Gilbert.

According to Coroner Fisher, Ms. Kathryn Grayce Mullins, 20, of Statesboro, Georgia, was pronounced dead at an area hospital due to blunt force trauma. Mullins was the passenger of a pontoon boat that drifted into a dead tree on the edge of the lake, causing the tree to fall onto the boat. No one else was injured according to reports from the SCDNR.

DNR investigators are continuing to review this incident and have not said if any charges for the boat’s operator are pending.
