‘OPERATION: COOL DOWN’ gives fans for those who need them

Lexington, SC – With temperatures of 90 degrees continuing for the foreseeable future, Chief Terrence Green would like remind the Town of Lexington community that the Lexington Police Department offers free box style fans for those who are in need of a way to cool down during the hot South Carolina summer months.

‘Operation: Cool Down’ has been an ongoing for over ten years and this program is able to continue largely from the generosity of Town of Lexington businesses and individuals with box fan donations. Though this program was creating to assist Town of Lexington residents in need, when possible box fans have been given to those in the greater Midlands area.

In-kind donation forms are available for box fan donations made to ‘Operation: Cool Down’ through the Lexington Police Department Foundation. The in-kind donation form includes a tax identification number for tax deduction purposes.

‘Operation: Cool Down’ typically assists over 100 individuals or families each year and donations are always needed to continue this worthy community-based program.

Those who are in need of a box fan can come to the Lexington Police Department located at 111 Maiden Lane in Lexington, South Carolina for assistance during weekday business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

If a Town of Lexington resident has transportation issues, a Community Action Team (C.A.T.) officer may be available to drop off a box fan to them at their residence.

An acceptance and release of liability form is completed for all box fans that are given away.
