West Columbia, SC – Since the real first intensification and enacting of precautionary measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic in early March of 2020, many of Lexington County’s most popular family friendly community events have fallen victim to the virus. Spring normally would start the community event season with everything from fund raising efforts for good causes to great community festivals both large and small.
Some of the largest and best including the SC Poultry Festival in Batesburg-Leesville, the Lexington County Peach Festival in Gilbert, the 4th of July Lake Murray Boat Parade on Lake Murray, and to a smaller extent the Springdale Golf Cart Parade and the South Congaree Rodeo were all planned for but eventually fell to the COVID cancellation plague. Now, a much younger but certainly no less enjoyable event has been cancelled after one postponement from its original date. According to the City of West Columbia, their 3rd Annual Kinetic Derby Day has been canceled.
In a press-release from the city dated August 5, 2020, a spokesperson for the city said that after much careful consideration, the City of West Columbia’s 3rd Annual Kinetic Derby Day has now been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. That statement went on to say that West Columbia’s Kinetic Derby Day planning committee will continue to actively work with schools, artists, and businesses to engage broad community participation for next year’s event.
West Columbia’s 4th Annual Kinetic Derby Day is scheduled for April 24, 2021. For more information go to www.kineticderbyday.com.
