Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber and Visitors Center’s Board of Directors recently voted unanimously to name Tim James their new president and CEO. James was raised in the City of Cayce and has been involved in some aspect of Lexington County public service most of his life.
“Tim is leading us in a direction that will benefit our local businesses in new ways,” said board Chair Thomas Tafel. James has served as Interim president and CEO for the last 3 months. He has improved board development, operations, and has prioritized member relations,” Tafel said.
James has had a long career in leadership roles across the area. He began as a teen with the Explorer Post at the Cayce Department of Public Safety before going to work with them after graduating school. He later landed as the assistant sheriff at the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, eventually transferred to SLED, and then held several prestigious positions at the Lexington Medical Center.
James said he is ready for the opportunities ahead as social media, tourism, and partnerships as they move to the front as popular marketing tools, according to Tafel. “The new Visitors Center website is a game changer,” said James. “The website, www.visitcaycewestcolumbia.com, attracts visitors to vacation here and staycation ideas for local citizens.”
Others have said that the Chamber and Visitors Center has been rebooted this week with more active committees under Tim’s leadership. “We look forward to these exciting opportunities to engage our community,” Tafel said.
James has also filed to run for Cayce City Council in its District One. That election is set for late September.
