Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – A collision on Columbia Avenue in Lexington about 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2020 created a close call for the employees working the finish area at Frank’s Car Wash. The finish area is closest to the street and is an area where young employees put the final touches on your car as they come out of the wash tunnel.
A white Ford pickup truck that was travelling toward Columbia was involved in the collision. During the crash, the driver of the truck careened out of control and ended up headed right for that finishing area filled with employees putting the final touches on cars. The truck didn’t hit any of the workers, but it did hit a utility pole that cracked but thankfully didn’t fall on anyone.

The collision did cause Lexington police officers to close several lanes of traffic travelling east toward Columbia while a crew from Lexington County EMS and the fire service worked with the truck’s driver. The lanes were also closed for fear the pole might come down and strike the vehicle of a passing motorist.
Eventually, the wreck was cleared away under the direction of Lexington police officers. Representatives of the local utility company responded to make a decision about what to do with the broken pole.
