Lane closures may impact motorists as construction on Icehouse Amphitheater’s Pavilion in Lexington

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) - This week, there may be lane closures in the Town of Lexington right at the Icehouse Amphitheater that could cause minor traffic inconveniences as people travel through the area. This closure may be needed as work on the new pavilion area continues. Town officials say that the lane closure permit is valid from Monday, August 17, 2020 and could continue through Friday, August 21, 2020.

The right lane of South Church Street between Main Street and Maiden Lane should be the only area affected by this construction lane closure. This could affect motorists using the one-way roads that allow drivers to quickly cross from North Lake to South Lake Drives without having to deal with traffic at Lake and Main.

According to the Town of Lexington’s social media, the lane closure is permitted to begin at 7:00 a.m. daily and should end at 3:00 p.m. Officials say that it’s unlikely that the lane will be closed each day and for all listed hours; however, the lane closure permits were pulled for the entire period to accommodate the needs of the company that’s doing the construction of the pavilion area and to keep motorists safe should the lane closure become necessary. If the lane is closed, there will be signage in place that should provide drivers ample time to make a lane change before getting to the closed lane itself.

Lexington police officers are asking that all motorists be alert for possible traffic congestion in the area as lanes merge around the construction area. As with all construction zones, law enforcement officers strictly enforce traffic safety laws.
