Admissions Open for The Courage Center’s New - No-Cost Mentor Program for Young People

Lexington, SC - The Courage Center opens admissions today to its new evidence- and curriculum-based 12-week mentor program for young people to receive addiction or substance misuse recovery support while also learning valuable life skills. The program, called TRIBE: Tapping Into Resources of Integrity, Belonging, and Education, will launch its first cycle on September 3. Each cycle will be limited to 20 participants.

"When teens get involved with substance use, their mental, emotional, and physical development is stunted. With TRIBE, we look to create a program that fosters healthy growth by introducing vital living skills they may not learn at home or school, new friend groups, and guidance from trained recovery coaches," said Hunter Welch, The Courage Center’s Community Outreach Coordinator and primary architect of the program.

Other key aspects of the TRIBE Program include:

  • Transportation assistance is available if needed to participants and their parents/caregivers.

  • The program is designed for adolescents and youth in transition, ages 14 to 20.

  • The time commitment is two evenings per week for 12 weeks for participants.

  • Participants’ parents/caregivers are expected to engage in weekly Parent Group meetings.

  • Participants are eligible for weekly incentives.

  • Specific indicators will be measured weekly to quantifiably assess participant progress and program impact.

  • Limited funds are available through The Courage Center’s Journey to Recovery Fund to assist with clinical assessment and treatment costs if recommended.

  • Each session will be taught by a subject matter expert.

  • Positive recreation is a significant component of the TRIBE Program.
