SLED charges man who shot deputies with two counts of attempted murder

Lexington County, SC (Paul Kirby) - Agents of the S.C. Law Enforcement Division charged the man who shot two Lexington County deputies in early August with two counts of attempted murder this week. Albertus David Lewis, 27, got into a gun battle with the deputies when he produced a firearm and shot at the law enforcement officers after they had been called to the apartment complex where he lived multiple times that day due to Lewis’ behavior. Lewis was seriously injured when he was shot but survived. Both deputies survived as well.

This occurred on August 9, 2020 and since that date, Lewis has been recovering from his wounds in a local hospital. Now, he has been charged with two counts of Attempted Murder after SLED investigated the case at the request of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

The case will be prosecuted by the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
