Lexington PD just one of the local agencies involved in Sober of Slammer for Labor Day

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green said late last week that the Lexington Police Department, along with law enforcement agencies statewide, will be participating in the Sober or Slammer! Labor Day campaign. The campaign started on Friday, August 21, 2020, and will continue until Monday, September 7, 2020.

For the next several weeks, officers of the Lexington PD's Traffic Safety Unit and Patrol Division will be focused on DUI enforcement. Green reminded those who plan to consume alcohol or any other intoxicants at Labor Day gatherings to make a plan before the festivities start to get home safely.

If you fail to do so, you should know that the Town of Lexington, the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, and The SC Highway Patrol all have a ZERO Tolerance policy for any driver that has been using any type of intoxicant and then getting behind the wheel of a car or occupying any motor vehicle on the area's roads.

The Sober or Slammer! campaign falls under the South Carolina Department of Public Safety Target Zero initiative to end all highway fatalities. This statewide effort includes state, county, and local law enforcement agencies working together on high-visibility enforcement with heightened public awareness.
