Former South Congaree SRO & investigator arrested for burglary after allegedly stealing dogs

West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) - Devrinn A. Washington, a former South Congaree Police Department SRO and investigator, was arrested in West Columbia Wednesday, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. He has been charged with burglary and grand larceny.

Investigator Washington left the South Congaree Department last spring in good standing. At the time, he was a well-respected SRO that worked at the Congaree Elementary School. He left the department of his own free will to take a job in his family’s business. While at South Congaree, he contributed to the closing of a number of cases and sometimes acted as the department’s spokesperson.

According to arrest warrants, Washington used force to enter a home in the 1600 block of Sandra Dr. in mid-August. He is accused of taking two dogs, a Siberian Husky and Teacup Pomeranian, according to a report filed by the woman who lived there.

Washington has been booked into the Alvin S, Glenn Detention Center and will soon face a bond hearing.
