Leesville, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher released a statement on Sunday notifying the public that a motorcyclist who had been fighting for his life for several weeks after a collision had succumbed to his injuries. Fisher said that the deadly crash happened on U.S. Hwy 378 near Spool Wheel Road in western Lexington County on August 17, 2020.

According to Coroner Fisher, Paul Edward Yon, 56, of Leesville was pronounced dead at an area hospital on Saturday, August 29, 2020. He had been there since the collision occurred.
Investigators say that Yon was traveling westbound on U.S. Hwy 378 toward the Saluda Traffic Circle just before 4:00 p.m. that Saturday when another driver turned left in front of him causing Yon to collide with the side of that vehicle. Yon’s motorcycle then left the road and went into a ditch. Yon, who was not wearing a helmet when the collision occurred, was thrown from the bike.
The incident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
