LRADAC recognizes Recovery Month with “30 Days ... 30 Ways to Rock for Recovery”

Lexington, SC – LRADAC, the Midlands’ designated authority to address substance misuse issues for Lexington and Richland Counties, is proud to recognize Recovery Month 2020 with a month-long virtual event lasting throughout September. Sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Recovery Month is a national observance held every September to educate Americans that substance use treatment and mental health services can enable those with mental and substance use disorders to live healthy and rewarding lives. This observance celebrates the millions of Americans who are in recovery from mental and substance use disorders, reminding the public that treatment is effective, and that people can and do recover. It also serves to help reduce the stigma and misconceptions that cloud public understanding of mental and substance use disorders, potentially discouraging others from seeking help.

“LRADAC’s plans for this year’s Recovery Month included our second Rock for Recovery concert at the Icehouse with South Carolina’s singing superstar, Edwin McCain,” said Gayle Aycock, President and CEO of LRADAC. “However, in following public performance safety measures in regard to COVID-19, Edwin has graciously rescheduled his appearance for Rock for Recovery 2021. But that doesn’t mean we won’t be rocking recovery this month.”

To continue raising awareness about Recovery Month, LRADAC announces “30 Days ... 30 Ways to Rock for Recovery,” a 30-day virtual outreach on social media channels that promotes prevention, treatment and recovery of substance misuse through education, factoids, videos, and links that raise awareness about substance misuse and that recovery is possible for anyone. LRADAC will also use the month to help raise funding for the LRADAC Foundation’s recovery scholarships, with every dollar raised going directly to help patients seeking treatment who need financial support.
