Pelion, SC - The County of Lexington is seeking the public’s comments regarding any environmental impact of proposed runway and hangar-area expansion projects at the Lexington County Airport near Pelion. This county airport is located on Old Charleston Road between the Pelion and Boiling Springs communities.
Lexington County Public Works officials are proposing to extend the existing 4,335-foot runway by approximately 1,165 feet. That would make its total length 5,500 feet. The expansion would likely mean that small jet aircraft like the ones that large corporations use would be able to utilize the runway for landing and takeoff operations.
Additionally, the multi-hangar development would include the addition of a common-use taxi lane to connect to the existing parallel taxiway and associated common-use aprons. The proposed box hangars’ improvements would also allow for the accommodation of four additional aircraft.
If the general public wants to submit their input on the proposed improvements, they can do so via email to esmail@mbakerintl.com, or via U.S. Postal Service to:
Mr. Edward Smail
Michael Baker International
4425 Belle Oaks Drive
North Charleston, SC 29409
Comments will be received for 30 days. Additional information can be found on the County’s website: https://lex-co.sc.gov/departments/airport.
Upon completion of the draft environmental assessment, the document will be published for public review and comment for 30 days. It is anticipated that the draft environmental assessment will be available in the fall of 2020.
