Cayce, SC -- A Brookland-Cayce High School student has been announced as a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship program, a prestigious recognition representing fewer than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors nationwide.
Joseph Buchmaier will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million that will be offered next spring. More than 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools nationwide entered the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. Roughly 16,000 were selected as semifinalists.
National Merit Scholarship winners of 2021 will be announced starting in April. These scholarship recipients will join some 353,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the Merit Scholar title.
