Pelion, SC 06/12/2023 (Paul Kirby) – One person has died after being in intensive care at Prisma’s Palmetto Richland Hospital since they were severally injured in a wreck on June 3rd, 2023. This crash happened near the intersection of Hartley Quarter Road and Creek Ranch Road just west of the town of Pelion. According to Lance Corporal William Bennett of the SC Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 6:50 p.m. that Saturday.
Lance Corporal Bennett said that 3 people were travelling north on Hartley Quarter Road in a 1998 Volvo. The driver of the car, who was the person who died today, lost control of the car, went off the left side of the road, and then struck some trees. All 3 of the occupants of the vehicle were so seriously injured that they were transported to the Trauma Center at Prisma’s Palmetto Richland Hospital. Two of the injured occupants were flown by helicopter from a landing zone at Edmund First Baptist Church between Crystal Springs Drive and SC Hwy. 6.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has not identified the person who passed as a result of the collision. We will update this story once she does this.
