Airport High School student tased during fight Wednesday afternoon according to report

Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) 12/22/2020 – According to an attorney who has been retained to represent an Airport High School student, his client was tased during an on-campus altercation by the school’s SRO Wednesday. This was first released in a report by Fox’s local affiliate WACH-57 news. That student is sophomore Treyvon Hampton.

That report detailed how Hampton was involved in a fight with another student near a point where buses load and unload. At some point during that altercation, the SRO from an area law enforcement agency tried to intervene and eventually deployed a taser. Once discharged, the taser struck Hampton causing him to fall to the ground face down. Hampton’s attorney said that he was injured when he fell.

Now according to that attorney, Justin Bamberg, who also serves as a member of the SC House of Representative, Hampton’s family is livid that the taser was deployed to immobilize the teen. According to Bamberg, they want to ensure that there are clear and consistent policies not only at Airport High School but at SC schools throughout the state regarding the use of tasers on students.

Lexington School District Two’s administration released a statement around 11:00 a.m. Friday regarding the incident. In that they said, “The district takes seriously the safety of its students. To that end, the district is cooperating with local law enforcement officials and conducting its own investigation into these events.”
