Body of man found in woods near Gaston is identified as missing Lexington man

Lexington, SC 06/07/2024 (Paul Kirby) – On Friday afternoon, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher released the name of the man whose body was found in a wooded area on Roundtree Court in the Gaston area of the county. According to Fisher, his body was located at approximately 2:18 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

According to Coroner Fisher, the deceased man was Joseph Matthew Kosmos, 37, of Lexington. He had been reported missing last month. His body was discovered by people who were in the woods off Roundtree Court who dialed the county’s 911 center. Fisher said that an autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at MUSC in Charleston, SC. 

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department continue to investigate the death according to Fisher.
