West Columbia, SC 12/08/2021 (Paul Kirby) – A suspect who had been arrested in the Lexington area has escaped from a Lexington County EMS unit Wednesday afternoon. The man now identified as Daniel Hill III was in handcuffs with a law enforcement transport belt on when he ran from the ambulance in the area of Sunset Boulevard and Leaphart Road. He was last seen wearing a grey T-shirt and jeans and is said to have a Superman tattoo on his chest.
Law enforcement had taken Hill into custody earlier in the day on outstanding warants. As he was arrested, he assaulted an officer and was injuerd himself. Deputies loaded Hill into an EMS unit with his hands cuffed to be transported to Lexington Medical Center for evaluation. During that trip, he somehow was able to esape the ambulance and run from the scene on foot.
Law enforcement agencies from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, the City of West Columbia Police Department, the Lexington Police Department, and the SC Highway Patrol, are currently assisting in the search. As of 1:30 p.m. a large perimeter was set up around the area of Southeastern Freightliners. K-9s were on the scene assisting.
At this time, law enforcement official believe that the suspect may have stolen a 2005 Burgundy Ford F-350 straight side pickup with a V-10 motor from the area. The truck, which has a crew cab, had a firearm inside of it. They now have classified this suspect as armed and dangerous as a precaution while they try to confirm that the escapee is the person who took the truck.
