Brookland Cayce student finalist for National Merit Scholarship

Cayce, SC 02/10/2021 - A Brookland-Cayce High School student has been announced as a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship program. This is a prestigious recognition of the top achieving high school students nationwide.

Joseph Buchmaier is one of 15,000 finalists in the United States, and about 7,500 will be selected as National Merit Scholarship winners. Selection criteria for winners include academic records, PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index score, written recommendation, activities and leadership, and an essay from the finalist.

More than 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools nationwide entered the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants.

The 2021 National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced this spring. These scholarship recipients will join some 353,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the Merit Scholar title.
