Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board (CCLMC) and USAngling announce "Youth Angling Day"

Lake Murray, SC 08/22/2024 - The Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board (CCLMC) and USAngling are thrilled to announce "Youth Angling Day" on Thursday, September 26, at Gibson Pond Park in Lexington, SC. This exciting event will kick off the 2024 Pan American/USAngling Challenge Cup Kayak Championship, setting the stage for three days of world-class competition on Lake Murray.

 

Youth Angling Day is a free event designed for children ages 4-18 of all abilities. It offers a unique opportunity for young anglers to dive into the world of fishing with hands-on education through the International Game Fish Association’s (IGFA) Passport to Fishing Program. Participants will learn from the best as USAngling athletes, coaches, and ambassadors share their expertise.


Event Highlights:

  • Date & Time: Thursday, September 26 | 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM

  • Location: Gibson Pond Park, 241 Gibson Road, Lexington, SC 29072

  • Open to: Children ages 4-18 of all abilities

  • Cost: Free participation

  • Parental Supervision: A parent or guardian must accompany children under 16 years old

What to Expect:

  • Fishing Instruction: Learn to fish from USAngling athletes, coaches, and ambassadors.

  • Tackle Introduction & Knot Tying: Get hands-on practice with basic fishing gear and knot-tying techniques.

  • Casting Games: Test your skills with spinning rods and reels in fun and interactive casting games.

  • Fishing Stations: Experience the excitement of fishing on the pond with experts guiding hook handling, baiting, and releasing fish.

About the 2024 Pan American/USAngling Challenge Cup Kayak Championship: Taking place from September 27-29 on the scenic waters of Lake Murray, the 2024 Pan American/USAngling Challenge Cup Kayak Championship will feature elite kayak anglers from across the globe. Competitors from the USA, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Philippines, Venezuela, and more will showcase their talents in this prestigious event. Pan American nations will vie for the 3rd Pan American Kayak Fishing Championship title, while other international participants will compete for the USAngling Challenge Cup.
