Cayce, SC – 04/21/2021 (Paul Kirby) – A car was found stuck and abandoned on a creek bank off Charlotte Street under the 12th Street Extension in Cayce early Wednesday morning. This is not far from Frink Street and the Steel Hands Brewery in the city.
Once someone noticed the car hanging over the edge of the creek, they called 911 and officers from the Cayce Department of Public Safety responded. It was first thought that the car was in the creek and possible submerged but that turned out not to be the case.
Once officers arrived, they found the car’s tires had dropped over the creek bank sometime before daylight but it wasn’t actually in the water. It appeared as if the driver might have been lost or disoriented and simply stopped just before driving into the water. There were no keys in the car, and muddy footprints were around it and in the floorboard of the driver’s side as if someone had gotten back into it after becoming stuck.
A Cayce officer ran the vehicle’s identification information but at that time, it had not been reported stolen. A wrecker was called to tow the car and officers were trying to contact its owner to see if it had been stolen or how it had ended up stuck over the creekbank.
Bystanders agreed that the story of how the car became stuck may be somewhat entertaining once its owner is located.
