Cayce, SC – 04/18/2021 (Paul Kirby) – The Cayce Department of Public Safety closed the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Knox Abbott Drive for several hours Sunday morning after receiving a credible threat that someone had planted an explosive device there. According to 1st Sgt. Evan Antley, they removed all the customers and employees from the building while other officers searched it for anything out of the ordinary.

“We had it closed for about two hours this morning while we searched the entire store,” Antley said. “After we found nothing, we allowed it to open up again.”

All the employees of Walmart had to wait in the parking lot of the adjacent Subway while all this was going on. They were the first to reenter the store after the all clear was given.

Antley said that the Cayce Department of Public Safety was assisted by several officers from the City of West Columbia. Later, a Columbia Police Department SUV arrived on scene toward the end of the operation.
