Cayce, SC – 04/05/2021 (Paul Kirby) – Firefighters from the Cayce Department of Public Safety quickly extinguished a fire in a home located in the 1800 block of Fairlawn Circle off Charleston Highway Saturday morning. The fire in the single-story dwelling was reported just before 9:00 a.m.
When Cayce’s firefighters first arrived, they reported that there was smoke coming from the residents. They quickly pulled fire hoses off their equipment and attacked the fire from the inside. The Cayce crews found the fire and reported that it was a room and its contents that were burning. While these crews were aggressively fighting the fire in the home, more trucks and manpower from Lexington County were dispatched to assist the Cayce teams.
In a short time, the fire was extinguished. A truck crew ventilated the roof to allow more smoke and heat to escape from the home. Others went into salvage and overhaul mode to protect the items in the home that had not already been damaged by the flames, smoke, and water. Equipment from Lexington County began to return to their stations within a short amount of time as the cleanup began.
Officials with the Cayce Department of Public Safety have not said what started the fire in the home. It was not destroyed although it will require extensive repairs because of the damages done by the fire.
