Cayce, SC 10/04/2024 (Paul Kirby) – Earlier this week, officers with the Cayce Police Department responded to back up one of their public safety officers after that officer contacted some individuals who appeared suspicious and were riding all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) near the Riverland Park neighborhood of the city. That is the neighborhood that was partially evacuated last weekend after it began to flood during Hurricane Helene.
As soon as the radio call for assistance was broadcast, officers assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division, Patrol Division, and Administrative Division responded to assist. They arrived very quickly and began to question the ATV riders. After interviewing the suspects and checking on equipment they were using, the officers discovered that one of the individuals in the ATV group was in possession of a stolen trailer that was attached to his pickup truck. He was arrested at this point.
Officers have now released the name of the suspect. They say he is Russell Coffey. He has now been formally charged with Possession of Stolen Property. He has been released pending his court date.
Police ask that if you see something suspicious, say something. In the City of Cayce, you can contact the police on their non-emergency phone number at (803) 794-0456. In Lexington County and most other municipal or unincorporated areas, the number is (803) 785-2521. As always, if you are experiencing or witness a life-threatening emergency, dial 911.

They need to do more investigation on Russell Coffey..
