Cayce, SC 06/05/2024 (Paul Kirby) - The Cayce Police Department (CPD) is continuing to investigate an attempted assault that occurred early in the morning on Friday morning, May 31, 2024. The crime occurred in Guignard Park at the intersection of Knox Abbott Drive and State Street.

According to a spokesperson for the CPD, officers are continuing to patrol the Cayce communities and neighborhoods and following up on all leads. They ask that the community continue to be vigilant and provide information to law enforcement. This could include surveillance footage, ring camera footage, or anything someone saw or may have heard.

According to a written statement provided by Spokesperson Ashley Hunter, the Cayce Police Department is deeply proud of the victim for coming forward after the incident. “Her bravery, her composure, and her ability to work with our officers every step of the way has been magnanimous and inspirational for our officers and our community,” Hunter stated. “She worked with investigators from the Cayce Police Department and SLED to produce the attached sketch,” Hunter concluded.

According to the CPD, the description of the suspect is a light-skinned black male, who at the time of the incident, was wearing all black clothing and a red mask covering half of his face.  It is believed that he has “bushy eyebrows.” The FACEMASK had writing on it and the sketch shows a style and reference of what the writing could be.  He did point a handgun at the victim during the incident. It is believed the suspect is younger, possibly in his early twenties.

Anyone with information on this case should contact Crime Stoppers at 888-CRIMESC.

Hunter’s statement concluded by thanking the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department for their help with this case.
