Cayce, SC 05/25/2022 (Paul Kirby) – A spokesperson for the City of Cayce Police Department says that a staff member from Cayce Elementary School has been arrested on multiple charges after an incident with a special needs student. According to Ashely Hunter, this arrest occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.
According to Ms. Hunter, a Cayce School Resource Officer was notified of an incident involving a staff member and a student at Cayce Elementary School that had taken place on Friday, May 20, 2022. Officers immediately began investigating the incident and obtained a warrant within hours of being notified of the incident.
Wednesday morning, Cayce officers arrested Melanie Juliette Harris on charges of Assault in the 2nd Degree, Kidnapping and Unlawful Conduct Towards a Minor. Officers say that Harris assaulted the special needs student in a classroom on school property. Harris has been booked into the Lexington County Detention Center where she will face a judge during a bind hearing.
