Chapin man charged with attempted murder

Lexington, SC 12/20/2023 - Lexington County deputies have arrested a Chapin man accused of trying to stab a man to death Sunday.

Cameron Thomas Hinckley, 23, is charged with attempted murder, first-degree burglary and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to arrest warrants.

“Deputies were dispatched to a house on Loveless Lane in Chapin right before 8 last night,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “They found a man who had been stabbed multiple times.”

Fire and EMS were already on scene treating the victim, according to Koon.

“The victim’s wife told deputies Hinckley knocked on their door, then pushed past her to get to the victim on the back porch,” Koon said. “The victim’s wife eventually pulled Hinckley off the victim.”

Hinckley walked back to his house after the alleged attack, according to Koon.

“Word came from Hinckley’s mother, who was on the scene of the stabbing, that he was still at home as deputies started their investigation,” Koon said. “As more units arrived, Hinckley refused to come outside. After about 30 minutes, deputies arrested him without incident.”

Koon said Hinckley was transported to the Lexington County Detention Center. Hinckley was scheduled to appear in bond court Monday afternoon.
