Pelion, SC 12/11/2021 (Paul Kirby) – Organizers have been working overtime in the small Lexington County town of Pelion to prepare for the arrival of Christmas and Santa Clause this year. Today is the big day and there will be lots to see and do all afternoon long and in to the evening
The first event is the Christkindl Market at the Pelion Community Center on Pine Street across from the fire station. This market begins at noon today, Saturday, December 11, 2021 and closes at 6:00 pm.
Organizers say that the Christkindl Market will feature food trucks, drinks, cars, games, and vendors selling their wares as the public strolls through the area enjoying the smells, sights, and sounds of Christmas. There is no fee for parking or general admission and most of the food and drinks will be reasonably priced. Any money raised will go to endow a scholarship that will be awarded to a deserving graduating senior at Pelion High School. The market will stay open until 6:00 pm when Pelion’s 2nd Annual Parade of Lights comes through.
The Parade of Lights will begin at 6:00 pm at the Soccer Complex off Fort Street. It will proceed out to Pine Street where it will travel through the heart of the town to its end at Lydia Drive.
This year, there will be a number of horse riders at the beginning of the parade and a special group of 13 horses will lead. There will be 13 American flags and 13 sets of empty military boots in the procession representing the 13 fallen US service members who died last August in Afghanistan. This memorial is being cooordinated by area horse trainer and breeder J.D. Kneece. It promises to be a beautiful tribute to those fallen hearos. After the tribute has passed, there will be many parade uniits lit with thousands of beutiful lights as bystanders wave and shout as the decorated floats and displays roll by.
Come, bring the family, and enjoy the sights and sounds of a wonderful holiday season in the western Lexington County Town of Pelion, SC.
