Col. Jonathan Robinson Named 2020-2021 Lexington County School District Three Teacher of the Year

Batesburg-Leesville, SC - Col. Jonathan Robinson, a JROTC instructor at Batesburg-Leesville High School, has been named as the 2020-2021 Lexington County School District Three Teacher of the Year. The announcement came on Thursday, October 1st at a special banquet held at Southern Occasions in honor of all of the district’s Teacher of the Year finalists.


Col. Robinson (USA Ret.) is a native of Salley, South Carolina. He received his commission in the United States Army as a Signal Officer in December 1982 upon completion of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education from South Carolina State University. Col. Robinson served in the United States Army for 29 years in various Senior Leadership positions such as Company Commander, Executive Officer, Senior Staff positions, Battalion Commander and G3 Operations for the 7th Signal Command located in Augusta, Georgia.

For the past six years, Col. Robinson has served as the JROTC Senior Army Instructor at Batesburg-Leesville High School. He is responsible for managing and operating the JROTC unit according to school rules, regulations, and policies. He is also responsible for advising the BLHS Administrative Staff/School Authorities on JROTC policy and regulation changes.


Col. Robinson drove away on Thursday evening in a brand new 2020 Chevrolet Blazer courtesy of Herlong Chevrolet-Buick. The car dealership graciously provides a car annually for Lexington Three’s Teacher of the Year to drive during his/her year of service. In addition, Mr. Ben Herlong presented a donation of $2,000 from the dealership to Lexington County School District Three during Thursday’s banquet. The money will go towards providing new supplies to the classrooms of the district’s Teacher of the Year finalists.
