Collision between dump truck and sedan traps occupant near Gilbert Wednesday

Gilbert, SC (06/10/2021 Paul Kirby) – A sedan and a dump truck collided on Juniper Springs Road near Volliedale Drive Wednesday evening trapping at least one occupant in the wreckage. The collision, which occurred about 5:00 p.m., smashed the front of the sedan and caused the truck to turn onto its side and come to a stop on the shoulder of the road.

Emergency responders from Lexington EMS and the fire service were dispatched to the wreck. While enroute, it was determined that someone was still trapped in the carnage of the smashed vehicles. At that point, additional equipment with specially trained personnel and a battalion level supervisor also responded.

Personnel from EMS began caring for the injured patients while firefighters worked to free the trapped person from the tangled mess. Meanwhile, law enforcement officers from across the area responded to assist with traffic and worked to ensure the scene was safe for the rescuers who were working.

The extent of anyone’s injuries isn’t currently available. Those medical records are protected by federal law. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the collision.
