Columbia Airport Expressway to be renamed after Congressman Joe Wilson

West Columbia, SC 10/28/2024 - On Wednesday, October 30 at 2:30 p.m., Attorney General Alan Wilson, Secretary of Transportation Justin Powell and elected officials will hold a road renaming ceremony for long-serving Congressman Joe Wilson. The event will be held at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport at 3250 Airport Boulevard, West Columbia, SC 29170.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation Commission voted to rename Columbia Airport Expressway to Congressman Joe Wilson Expressway on July 18 in an extension of its appreciation to Congressman Wilson for his many years of loyal service to the state.
Congressman Wilson has been serving the citizens of the Second Congressional District and the the state of South Carolina in the US House of Representatives since 2001. Before being elected to Congress in 2001, Wilson served 17 years in the South Carolina State Senate. His tenure included service as the Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee.
Congressman Wilson is also a veteran of the United States Armed Forces where he served our nation for 31 years.
