Lexington, SC 08/27/2021 (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher confirmed Friday that a man that was in cardiac arrest after a collision in the Sharpe’s Hill are of the county early Thursday morning has died. Fisher said that the collision that was first thought to be between a vehicle and a moped was actually a crash involving a truck and a dirt bike.

Coroner Fisher said that at approximately 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Christopher Scott Ledbetter, 39, of Gaston was operating a dirt bike with no lights on. At the intersection of SC Hwy. 6 and Mimosa Drive, he failed to yield right-of way and was struck by a truck travelling east on Hwy 6.

Ledbetter was treated at the scene by personnel from the Lexington County Fire Service and Lexington County EMS. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries shortly after arrival. The driver of the other vehicle was treated at the scene and released.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
