Barnes was a passenger in a Ford Ranger being driven by another man. The pair were heading north toward the intersection of Fairview Crossroads when the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve, went off the left side of the road, and hit a tree head-on. Fisher said that Barnes was not wearing a seatbelt when this collision happened. The driver was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. His condition is currently unknown.
After the collision occurred, law enforcement officers found multiple items in the truck that appeared to have been stolen. The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is investigating to determine where those items were taken from in hopes of returning them to their owners.
The accident is being investigated by the SCHP MAIT Team.
