Coroner Fisher identifies man killed while working in I-26 construction zone Friday

Lexington, SC 04/17/2023 (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher released a statement over the weekend identifying the man who was killed in a construction related incident on Friday, April 14, 2023, just before midnight. According to Fisher, this happened in the eastbound lanes of I-26 near the 130-mile marker.

Fisher said that Ramon Ortiz-Medina, 24, of Columbia was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries inflicted by the heavy equipment he was working around. An autopsy was scheduled to take place at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston on today.


The Lexington County Coroner’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
