Coroner Fisher identifies Maryland man killed after being struck by a vehicle while walking in the road near South Congaree Wednesday

Lexington, SC 04/04/2024 (Paul Kirby) – Thursday morning, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher positively identified the man who died in a vehicle versus pedestrian collision Wednesday morning. According to Fisher, this happened in the 4000 block of Edmund Highway near the Town of South Congaree in Southern Lexington County. This happened on April 3, 2024, at approximately 6:40 a.m. in the morning.



According to Coroner Fisher, Marvin Orlando Felipe Perez, 34, of Halethorpe, Maryland was walking in the road  when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound, toward Cayce and West Columbia, on Edmund Highway. Perez was pronounced dead on scene due to the injuries he sustained in the collision. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was not injured.

 

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol continue to investigate the incident.
