Coroner Fisher identifies shooting victim

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said Friday morning that Judy Dyanne Burnett, 72, of Gilbert, SC was the person who was killed in a shooting Thursday evening. The fatal incident occurred in the 700 block of West Main Street in Lexington.

Coroner Fisher said that Burnett was shot in her face at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2020. She was treated and transported by personnel from Lexington County EMS and the Lexington County Fire Service. Tragically, Burnett was pronounced dead upon arrival at an area hospital.

There was a 49-year-old armed man on scene when police officers arrived. That man was taken into investigative custody immediately.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lexington Police Department with assistance from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
