Coroner Fisher identifies the person killed in the Goldfinch Lane house fire Wednesday

Lexington, SC 04/21/2022 (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has released the identity of the man who died at the scene of a house fire that occurred in the 1600 block of Goldfinch Lane in the City of West Columbia. That fire was reported shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2022.

According to Coroner Fisher, Samuel Dwaine Smith, 44, of Elloree, SC was pronounced dead at the scene after he was located by firefighters in the area of the home’s carport. Fisher said that she has scheduled an autopsy that will be completed sometime soon at MUSC in Charleston.


The incident remains under investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division as well as the City of West Columbia Police Department.
