West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) 11/21/20 - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual that was killed in a collision on Augusta Road in the City of West Columbia on Friday afternoon. This happened in the 2900 block of Augusta Road near Methodist Park Road around 4:30 p.m. on November 20, 2020.
According to Coroner Fisher, Dean Laux, 26, of West Columbia was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries he sustained in the crash. Fisher said that Laux was traveling east toward Columbia when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed the center line, and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident. No one else was injured in the collision.
The crash stopped afternoon commuters headed west toward Springdale, Oak Grove, and Lexington. Drivers were rerouted through the parking lot of Lowe's and sent back east towards West Columbia to take a different route.
The collision is under investigation by the West Columbia Police Department.
