Coroner Fisher identifies victim of Swansea nightclub shooting

Lexington, SC 04/29/2024 (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has released the name of the man who was shot outside of a bar in Swansea early Sunday morning. The bar is called Amecci Tavern, and it’s located in the 1000 block of Savannah Highway in Swansea. The shooting occurred at about 3:20 a.m. Sunday morning.  

Coroner Fisher said that Rodney McKensey James Jr., 23, of Wagener, SC, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead due to multiple gunshot wounds.

According to Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon, witnesses saw James was arguing with another man inside the bar. Later, they took the argument outside. When patrons inside the bar heard gunshots, some rushed out in time to see a car drive away.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate this incident.
