Coroner Fisher releases the identity of 14-year-old murdered over the weekend

Lexington, SC 08/03/2021 (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher recently released the identity of the individual that was killed in the 800 block of Osage Avenue in the City of West Columbia on Saturday, July 31, 2021. The incident happened at approximately 1:00 p.m.

According to Coroner Fisher, Daeun Mercelis Odom, 14, of Gaston was found dead on scene with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. The coroner has ruled this incident was a homicide.

Saturday evening, the West Columbia Police Department released a statement that said they had taken another juvenile into custody on a gun related charge. They continue to investigate the incident.
