Lexington, SC – 03/13/2021 (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said Thursday evening that one of the passengers of a vehicle involved in the collision at Boiling Springs Road and Bethany Church / Redmond Roads has now died. This collision happened on Thursday, March 11, 2021 just before 10:00 a.m.
Coroner Fisher said that Phillip Auston Jones, 26, of West Columbia was pronounced dead at an area hospital on March 12, 2021 due to his injuries. Jones was riding in the rear seat of a vehicle that was travelling toward Pelion when the driver of the vehicle he was in disregarded the stop sign. When it entered the intersection, it struck a work vehicle travelling along Boiling Springs Road.
Jones was not wearing a seat belt when the collision occurred.
The driver and another occupant of the vehicle he was in, as well as the driver of the other vehicle, were transported to area hospitals and their current condition is unknown.
