Lexington, SC 03/23/2022 (Paul Kirby) - Wednesday afternoon, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher released the identity of the individual who died as a result of being struck by a motor vehicle near the 39-mile marker shortly before 11:30 P.M. on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.
According to Coroner Fisher, Solomon Emmanuel Gilmore, 24, of Charlotte, NC was pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries sustained in the accident. Gilmore, whose vehicle had broken down around the 41 mile marker, was walking in the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle at the exit 39 on-ramp. The driver, who was not injured, remained on scene and notified authorities.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
