Lexington, SC 04/18/2022 (Paul Kirby) – Over the weekend, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the motorcyclist who was killed as a result of a collision at the intersection of Highway 378 and Lewie Road near Hollow Creek shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2022. Coroner Fisher said that Russell J. Harris, 51, of Batesburg, died at the scene as a result of the crash with a sedan that turned out in front of him.

According to the SCHP, Harris was traveling toward Lexington on Highway 378 when he collided with a vehicle that was turning west toward Saluda County onto 378 from Lewie Road. Harris, who Fisher said did not have a helmet on at the time of the collision, was pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries he sustained in the crash. The driver of the vehicle was not injured and remained on scene until law enforcement arrived.

The incident is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
