Coroner identifies motorcyclist killed on I-26 early Saturday morning

Dixianna, SC - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the motorcyclist who died as a result of being struck by motor vehicles on Interstate 26 Eastbound at mile marker 118 shortly before 1:0 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2021.

According to Coroner Fisher, Christopher James Prewitt, 34, of Elgin was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries. Prewitt, who was not wearing a helmet, appears to have been involved in a single-vehicle incident, causing him to be ejected from his motorcycle. He was then struck by two other vehicles.


The incident is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
